Kindergarten

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything"- Plato

Most of the kindergarten year will be spent learning appropriate music room behaviors and how to participate in music activities.  We will be addressing topics and skills from the regular kindergarten classroom, while learning fundamental music skills and concepts during our music classes.  Activities will include singing, movement, playing instruments, reading poems and stories, watching videos, listening to music, and writing/art/drawing activities. A typical 48 minute class consists of:

1.  A greeting song
2.  A "roll-call" activity that includes responding to spoken or sung names
3.  Warm-up activity emphasizing basic rhythms and solfege
4.  A story, poem or activity that matches a theme being taught in the regular classroom, the season/weather, proper school behaviors, character education, or musical instruments, performers, composers or theory.
5.  A singing activity, either a song or game using a singing voice
6.  An instrument circle activity
7.  A group game or movement activity
8.  A goodbye or line-up song
